Compass

I am a member of Compass organization and I would like to introduce Compass and EVS a little bit because this is a part of my life.

Compass Organization for the European Youth Community

Introducing our organization:

Our organization's constitution states: We help in the integration of the Hungarian youngsters into the European Union's system, helping them to take an active part in their community's life, widening their acting possibilities to become a responsible citizen in the European Union.

Our members (besides some adult supporters) highschool and university students, whose purpose is to create a community where they can spend their time with sport, culture, social work, to spend their freetime benefical and useful. Our organization was operating as an informal group for two years; we became a registered organization in 2005. With help of sponsors we run a club room in the downtown of Kaposvar (Németh István fasor 7.), where we provide opportunity to free internet use, they can get information connected to youths, information about competitions and different opportunities. The clubhouse is operated by our youth members, who also arrange programs for their by their self, these programs are very colorful from the fussball to the “Ability day”. Our programs are becoming more and more popular among the youngsters from Kaposvar, just because they organized by youngsters too.

Our Organizations activities in 2007:

- COMPASS ABILITY QUEST- Skills improving program for 6-18 years old youths.

- We hold informative sessions for high school students, where they are informed about the education, training, and working opportunities in the European Union.

- We have a cooperating contract with the Labour Organization to widen the knowledge of the youths in Somogy County about the European Union. Together with the Labour Organization’s EURES expert we hold presentations in high schools about the training and working opportunities in the European Union. In the future we would like to make presentations among the high schools of the county in a more organized form.

- Active cooperation with the local associations of the disabled youngsters, the Association of the Disabled People of Somogy County, the Organization of the Blinds and Visually Damaged, and with the Equal Chance coordinating Office of Somogy County.

- We would like to make our youth club’s program more colorful with the “ROCK-KI-MIT-TUD” talent scouting program, we already started to organize this program.

- We arrange a Charity Football Cup with the Kaposvar I. Leo Club, its profit going to support the Association of the Disabled Youngsters of Kaposvar.

- In 2006 we joined the EVS program; currently we hold presentations with the Labour Organization of Kaposvar, hopefully these presentations will help the local unemployed entrants’ to a better life start.

- Since April 2007 as a host organization we would like to host youths from the European Union, who will join us with their active help in the Compass Ability Quest and in our Informative Program about the European Union.

It's very beneficial, useful and highly interesting to belong to a group like this! I think there should be more such services because our knowledge about the opportunities in the EU is imperfect. I wish you pleasant and successful work!

I also got pretty excited about the Compass organization and was happy to find a brief description about its activities on your blog.
You guys are soooo lucky to have a club-room! :D That is one main goal the GJU at Pécs would like to achieve in the near future, as well as recruiting new members.

Enjoy your work & fun at your org.! ;)
